In this short series of articles I will explore the several site templates in the different editions of SharePoint. The serie contains of the following parts:

Part 1: SharePoint Foundation

Part 2: Search Server 2010 & Search Server 2010 Express

Part 3: SharePoint Server 2010 Standard

Part 4: SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise

Part 5: Overview

Let’s start with the templates, we can use in SharePoint Foundation. When creating a new site collection or a new site, we can select a template from a group of two:

  • Collaboration
  • Meetings

From the collaboration group we have

  • Team Site
  • Blank Site
  • Document Workspace
  • Blog
  • Group Work Site

In the meetings group we can select

  • Basic Meeting Workspace
  • Blank Meeting Workspace
  • Decision Meeting Workspace
  • Social Meeting Workspace
  • Multipage Meeting Workspace

How do the start pages look like in these several templates and which lists and libraries are created when we use these templates.

Summary

I guess the most often used template from this list in the SharePoint Foundation 2010 is the Team Site template. The meetings templates are normally not used from the common create site collection or create site masks. These templates are targeted when a user creates a new meeting workspace from a calendar.
